To stop OneDrive from syncing desktop shortcuts, you need to stop it from syncing with your desktop folder. Just search for OneDrive and open it via the Start menu whenever you want to start syncing again. Then, select Close OneDrive again to confirm. To do that, select the Microsoft OneDrive icon and select Help & Settings > Close OneDrive. ![]() Create an Administrative Templates profile It’s also possible to stop OneDrive from syncing indefinitely by closing it. ![]() The setting only blocks syncing new shortcut files, existing files won’t be removed from OneDrive. To stop OneDrive from syncing desktop shortcuts, you must stop it from syncing your Desktop folder. I find it pretty annoying applications which place a shortcut on my computer’s desktop.
